Meeting with representatives of Tajik diaspora in Finland
In the evening of October 23rd the President of the country Emomali Rahmon arrived for an official visit in Helsinki City – the capital of Finland.
The Head of Tajik state Emomali Rahmon began his visit programme in Finland from the meeting with compatriots living in this country.
The President of Tajikistan during this meeting stated: “We are interested in the attraction of our compatriots living abroad in the construction processes in Tajikistan and would like that they become the regular partners of the Government of the country in the process of sustainable development of the republic”.
As well it was highlighted that “the sovereign state of Tajikistan is the support for all compatriots living abroad and it supports them as far as possible regardless of their job or living locations”.
A frank and sincere talk took place during the meeting. In the course of this talk the Head of State Emomali Rahmon answered to the questions and requests of compatriots living in Finland and instructed officials from his delegation to take practical steps for realization of their beneficial proposals.
The foreign compatriots of Finland have also been presented with musical instruments and national Tajik clothes, books and other materials which represent the past and the present of Tajikistan.

Results of top-level meetings and talks between Tajikistan and Finland
This morning the programme of official visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to Finland has been continued by the meetings and talks with the President of this country Sauli Niinistö.
The issues of establishment and development of political, economic, trade, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation between Tajikistan and Finland have been at first considered during the tete-a-tete meeting of heads of both states Emomali Rahmon and Sauli Niinistö.
Substantial discussion of cooperation issues has been continued in the course of official negotiations in expanded format.
It was stressed that abundant natural and human resources of Tajikistan and modern capital and technologies of Finland are a good basis for enhancement of bilateral mutually advantageous ties.
The development of cooperation in the areas of energy, particularly hydropower sector, mining and food industry, agriculture and tourism have been called among the promising domains of the relations between Tajikistan and Finland.
A constructive talk has also taken place regarding the enhancement of interaction in the framework of the European Union, international and regional organizations. It was stated with satisfaction that Tajikistan and Finland have the same or similar positions on many issues related to regional and international security, hydro-energy, ecology, prevention of global warming and ensuring large access of world’s population to pure drinking water, as well as they have established a beneficial interaction in these areas.
Following the official talks, an intergovernmental agreement on the avoidance of double taxation and prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income and capital has been signed.
In the course of press statements the heads of the two states highly evaluated the results of top-level negotiations and prospects for further development of relations between Tajikistan and Finland.
The President of Finland Sauli Niinistö stated, in particular: “Finland is interested in the development of cooperation with Tajikistan, including in the framework of assistance in the economic revival and peaceful restoration in Afghanistan and we are ready to use all opportunities and resources of the two countries for this end”.
Emomali Rahmon, referring to particular place and authority of Finland in political, socio-economic and cultural affairs of the European Union, has stated that “Tajikistan is interested in the enhancement of multidimensional cooperation with this country”.

Meeting with Speaker of Parliament of Finland Eero Heinäluoma
In the afternoon, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has held a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament of Finland Eero Heinäluoma.
The issues related to bolstering legal-treaty basis of cooperation and enhancing inter-parliamentary relations between the two countries have been discussed at the meeting.
It was accentuated that the examination of rich parliamentarianism experience of Finland and implementation of its model achievements in Tajikistan would be a beneficial cause.
Both sides stated that they will establish a parliamentary group of friendship between Tajikistan and Finland from among the people’s deputies for setting up regular advantageous ties.
A constructive talk has also taken place on strengthening relations with the European Parliament and OSCE institutions.

Meeting with Parliamentary Ombudsman of Finland Petri Jääskeläinen
On the same day in Helsinki the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has also met with the Parliamentary Ombudsman of Finland Petri Jääskeläinen.
Emomali Rahmon informed his interlocutor on the activities of Tajikistan’s institute of ombudsman, as well as noted in particular that during its short term of existence, namely since 2009, a favorable legal basis has been laid for fruitful functioning of this institute.
It has been stressed that ensuring rule of law and protection of human rights and freedoms are among the priority areas of cooperation of Tajikistan with the countries of the European Union.
There has been noted satisfaction with effective cooperation in the framework of 30-month programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland – “Equality before law: access to judicial justice in Central Asia” and other interactions between both countries in this domain.
